Trust Twinkle Khanna to be supremely candid about every aspect of her life. From her parenting experiences, while raising Aarav and Nitara, to her day-to-day observations about life and people, the author manages to tickle our ‘funnybones’ or make us contemplate, or both. In a similar vein, Twinkle recently shared a “controversial” confession. Wondering what is it? “Milord, I get my saris stitched,” she wrote.

Twinkle went on to share the various pros of getting her saris stitched.

*Wears it more often: According to her, getting her saris stitched gives her the chance and freedom to wear them more often.

*Helpful for her daughter: Expressing her intention of passing on her saris to her daughter, Twinkle wrote, “When I pass it on to my daughter, she just has to adjust two hooks and it can fit her as well.”

*Ease of wearing: Wearing a sari can be a cumbersome task for many, especially beginners. With a stitched sari, you just “need two safety pins instead of half a dozen”, she said.

*Ease of movement: Even after wearing a sari, some people are in constant fear of getting it unravelled mistakenly. However, one can eliminate that with a stitched sari, she said. “You can do whatever you want – 11 jumping jacks or do jack himself without unravelling a single pleat.”

*Better for tailors: Twinkle said that getting your saris stitched “gives our wonderful tailor masters more work”.

While Twinkle’s idea of getting saris stitched seems interesting, several women took to the comment section to express their contradicting opinions. “I find it convenient to wear it in the traditional way. I think it gives us the liberty to leave pallu as we want it. Either all plated or lose as per the requirement (long long/short length has to be adjusted). Then Gujarati style on certain occasions is also the reason it shouldn’t be stitched. Stitching will limit any different way of draping the saree,” a user wrote.

Another commented: “I grew up watching my grandmother (nani) drape a saree every morning and she made it look easy, graceful, effortless and beautiful. It’s hard to unwire a formative memory. Unless a saree is heavy or unreasonably hard to wear I don’t mind being old school. To each their own. If you like it stitched so be it as long as it retains its grace and silhouette without giving away the fact that it’s not traditional. Comfort trumps all.”
