Artist recollects designing Virat Kohli's tattoo (Photo: Aliens Tattoo)Tattoo artist Sunny Bhanushali couldn’t believe his luck when cricketer Virat Kohli walked into his studio. Recalling the 2023 episode in vivid detail, Bhanushali took to Instagram to share a heartfelt note.
“When Virat walked into my studio, you won’t believe what happened next. I thought I was dreaming. Virat Kohli. In my studio. With my tattoos saved on his phone. He looked me in the eye and said — ‘I’ve been following your work for years,'” recollected Bhanushali, founder, Aliens Tattoo.
Sharing the design and a video, he shared how the idea for Virat’s tattoo came about. “His request was beyond just some tattoo. He didn’t come with a design. He came with a feeling. Something about oneness, the source, the interconnectedness of life, the gratitude, the universal truth,” continued Bhanushali.
To translate his “feeling into form”, Bhanushali said he “spent days meditating on the essence of what he (Virat) said”. “Learning from physics, philosophy, sacred texts and intuition. His request pushed me to study the universe and its sacred language – Geometry. It didn’t feel like designing. It felt like decoding,” shared Bhanushali.

There was no moodboard, said Bhanushali, “Only whispers of meaning I had to uncover. I wasn’t creating a tattoo. I was uncovering a language. One that speaks of oneness, alignment, and deeper truth.”
The artist also decoded the tattoo in detail.
The Metatron’s cube – The source
At the centre of it all was the Metatron’s cube. Not just geometry, but a map of all creation. Every shape, every form, every possibility begins here. It’s the code behind life itself.
“And for Virat, it became the anchor”
The Septagon – Harmony in motion
Seven is balance, harmony, perfection. It holds Virat’s idea of alignment — between action and stillness, success and surrender.
“It became the framework of his journey”
The Interwoven flower – Everything is connected
Lines that never end. It symbolised interconnectedness – how every choice, every person, every moment leads to the next, nothing is random
The Cubic Grid – Stability in the unknown
A cube is the shape of certainty. It stood for structure- the discipline beneath the divine. The form that holds the formless.

According to Bhanushali, “these elements formed a map of his inner world”. “These weren’t just the elements. They were truths – personal, universal, and timeless. A language of form and feeling. A mirror to his inner self.”
Prashant Yaduvanshi, founder of Shaman Ink (Delhi and the Netherlands), told us that oneness is a “sense of unity, a team, a community, a tribe moving together toward a shared vision”. “As a tattoo artist, I express that feeling through sacred geometry. It’s a language beyond words — a way to embody emotions and universal truths that can’t be spoken, only felt. That’s exactly what this tattoo represents,” said Yaduvanshi.
