Four days after a teenage girl was gang-raped in Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh, the police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident. While one person was arrested from Daporijo town, two of his accomplices were tracked down in Taliha, a town about 45 kms away.
Police said that a car which the alleged rapists had used to whisk away the girl on July 26 has been also seized. This is the second incident of rape reported in Upper Subansiri district in the month of July. It was on July 8 that a differently-abled girl was allegedly raped by three persons in Dumporijo, a town close to Daporijo.
While the victim as well as the accused persons of the July 28 incident have been put through medical examination and their statements recorded, the police could not record any statement of the earlier victim because she had speech impairment, reports from Itanagar said.

Daporijo is about 110 kms from Itanagar, the state capital.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has strongly condemned the recent rape of a teenager at Daporijo earlier this week and asked the state government to set up fast-track courts to handle rape cases. “The APSCW wants that a fast-track court be set up with sufficient manpower to handle the increasing number of rape cases in the state,” the APSCW in a statement in Itanagar said.
Describing as shocking that two successive rape case had occurred in the same district in a span of just three weeks, the APSCW also expressed concern over lack of safety of women and the rising crime rate in the state. “Such incidents, if not handled in time would give rise to more crime,” the APSCW in a statement in Itanagar said.
