Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly is a cross-continental journey of self-discovery, featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler. Oh. What. Fun
Prime Video
After her efforts are overlooked one too many times, Claire Clauster (Michelle Pfeiffer), a holiday-loving matriarch, embarks on an unexpected, empowering journey of self-discovery. Director Michael Showalter reveals Claire has been preparing for this holiday for months and really looks forward to her kids coming home. With their busy lives and loving but complicated relationships with each other and their mother, they do nothing. This makes her put herself first on her own holiday list. The cast also features Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Denis Leary.
Lee
Lionsgate Play
Set during the upheaval of World War II, Lee follows the extraordinary journey of Lee Miller (Kate Winslet), a former fashion model who traded fame and comfort to become one of the most fearless war correspondents of her time. Cinematographer-turned-director Ellen Kuras traces Miller’s path from the creative and political circles of pre-war Europe to the brutal realities of the battlefield. As she travels through occupied territories, records the aftermath of violence, and enters spaces few women were allowed to enter, Miller reshapes what it means to be both a journalist and a witness. Her singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub. It will be available for streaming on December 5.
The Abandons
Netflix
Set in the Washington Territory in 1854, the series follows the matriarchs of two very different families: the Van Nesses, a dynasty of wealth and privilege led by Gillian Anderson’s Constance, and the Abandons, a found family of orphans and outcasts fiercely protected by Lena Headey’s Fiona Nolan. The families find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, star-crossed love, and a piece of land over a silver lode. Their collision in a place just beyond the reach of justice echoes the perpetual American struggle between the haves and have-nots.
