UIDAI will now offer free biometric updates for children aged 7–15. Learn how to update Blue (Baal) Aadhaar, required documents, and the step-by-step process. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) waived off all charges for Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU-1) to ensure a smoother process for the Aadhaar biometric update for Baal or Blue Aadhaar Card, which is particularly for children aged 5-17 years.
Effective from October 1, 2025, the waiver of mandatory MBU charges will be applicable for one year.
The first and second MBUs, which are performed between the ages of 5-7 and 15-17, respectively, are now free of cost for an entire year.
Following that, a cost of Rs. 125/- per MBU is levied. With this ruling, MBU is now effectively free for all children aged 5–17.
The updates include new fingerprints, iris scans, and pictures.
While at the time of enrolment, biometrics are not necessary; however, after attaining the age of five, the child’s Aadhaar is mandatory, and once again upon reaching the age of 15 years, which is referred to as the second MBU.
The child’s photo, fingerprints, and iris scans are taken and updated.
