Blue Aadhaar Card Registration and Requirements: Aadhaar is an essential Know Your Customer (KYC) document in India as it allows people to receive government subsidies and other social programmes, in addition to serving as critical identification proof in diverse industries and providing vital data such as full name, permanent address, and date of birth, all linked to a unique 12-digit number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Along similar lines, to provide a unique identity to every resident of India, including minors, the UIDAI introduced the concept of the ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card, especially for children under the age of five. Also known as the Blue Aadhaar Card, as the name suggests, it’s unlike the general white Aadhaar Card for adults; however, it similarly contains a 12-digit unique identification number.
Understanding the Blue Aadhaar card is crucial for parents and guardians, as it involves a registration process tailored for children, including specific biometric data requirements that differ from those of adults.
Additionally, as per Section 3(1) of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, every resident of India is entitled to obtain an Aadhaar number, including children, by presenting their demographic information and biometric information during the process of enrolment.

What are the requirements for the Blue Aadhaar card?
Baal, or Blue Aadhaar, cards are specifically meant for children under the age of five, including newborns. No biometrics are required, as the cards are processed based on the demographic information and facial photograph linked with the UID of their parents.
However, they are valid until the age of five years and need to be updated with documents and biometric information of ten fingers, iris, and facial photographs when they are five and again at the age of 15, or else the card will become invalid.
Below are the following documents that are required for the Baal Aadhaar card:
- A child’s birth certificate
- School ID card
- Hospital discharge slip for newborns
- Address proof
- One of the parents’s Aadhaar card information
- Two passport-size photographs of the child
How do I register for the Blue Aadhaar Card?
To register for a Blue Aadhaar card, here’s a step-by-step guide to follow:
- Visit the UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in.
- Navigate to ‘My Aadhaar’ and go to and click ‘Book an Appointment’.
- Select ‘New Aadhaar’ and provide the required details.
- Post that, go under the ‘Relationship with Head of the Family’ and select ‘Child (0–5 years).’
- Enter the child’s necessary details, like the parent or guardian’s phone number, address, and more.
- Once done, choose an appointment slot at a nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
The Baal, or Blue Aadhaar, card is generally issued within 60 days of verification. By following these steps, you can easily register for a Blue Aadhaar card for your child and ensure that they have a valid identification document.
