Netflix has released the trailer for its live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The highly anticipated series consists of eight episodes.

The trailer centers around Aang, portrayed by Gordon Cormier, an avatar tasked with mastering the four elements – water, earth, fire, and air – to stop the Fire Nation threatening to destroy the world. Aang’s friends, Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), play crucial roles in helping him realize his powers and embark on a journey to save the world.

The official synopsis of the series reads, “Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task.”

The cast also includes Dallas Liu as Zuko, Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran, Arden Cho as June, Maria Zhang as Suki, Sebastien Amoruso as Jet, Utkarsh Ambudkar as King Bumi, and Danny Pudi as The Mechanist.

Initially announced in 2018, the adaptation encountered a shift when the show’s original creators stepped away in 2020, citing creative differences. Since then the announcements about series have been slow. Finally, Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to premiere on Netflix on February 22.
