Prabhas ‘warned’ Prithviraj about Salaar director Prashanth Neel’s obsession with hairstyles: ‘Many times he has stopped shooting for one hair’
Prashanth Neel explained why he stuck to the colour palette of KGF for Salaar. Salaar releases in theatres on November 22.

When Salaar dropped its first teaser, fans were convinced that the film surely belonged to the KGF universe as the colour palette of the movie was the same as Yash’s KGF films. Even after the trailer came out, fans were looking for hints to prove that Rocky Bhai was going to appear in Salaar. While KGF and Salaar’s director Prashanth Neel later stated that the worlds of both these movies were far apart, he has now explained the reason for the visual similarity between these films.
In a chat with SS Rajamouli on the YouTube channel of Hombale Films, Prashanth said that he has an “OCD with monochrome”. The director said that he realised the visual similarity between KGF and Salaar only after he started sharing the content of the film with the audience. “I have an OCD with monochrome and that is somehow reflecting in my movies, which I realised only after I put out Salaar trailer and teaser. I realised that very strongly. This has nothing to do with my DOP, it has nothing to do with my art director,” he said.
Prashanth Neel said that he believes that he can only convey the gritty nature of his world if he stays monochromatic. He acknowledged that sticking to the same colour palette “is not the best thing to do.” “I realised that I have an OCD where I feel that when I put out my content it has to be with that colour. (Otherwise) I don’t feel like I am telling that this is from a world which is as gritty,” he said. Speaking about trying to use different colours, he said, “I am not brave enough probably to do that, and probably I have realised that this is not the best thing to do but this world deserves it.”
Addressing the similarities between the world of KGF and Salaar, the director said that this was merely a “coincidence”. “It’s a coincidence that this is being compared to the previous world that we created but it has nothing to do with that. It is just my OCD which is reflecting is on screen,” he said.

Prithviraj and Prabhas, who were also a part of this chat, said that Prashanth Neel has an obsession for black and once during the shoot, he made Prithviraj change his costume three times but all of them looked alike to the actor. Prashanth said that he was making Prithviraj wear different shades of black but when the actor landed on set with Prabhas, the Baahubali actor couldn’t tell the difference in his co-actor’s costumes. “But the director wants, so let’s do it,” Prabhas laughed and shared.
The actors also opened up about Prashanth’s obsession with hairstyles as Prithviraj said that he likes to style every actor’s hair. Prashanth admitted, “I did that with Tinnu Anand also,” and to this, Prithviraj added, “And Tinnu Anand sir is asking me, what is he doing? I have seven hair on my head.”
Prabhas chimed in and said that he “warned” Prithviraj about Prashanth’s obsession with hairstyles and the two actors bonded on this. Prithviraj said that the KGF director is particular about every strand of hair even in a drone shot and said, “Many times he has stopped shooting for one hair.”
Salaar is set to release on screens on November 22.
