Ankita Lokhande’s mother defends her against claims of mentioning Sushant Singh Rajput for sympathy on Bigg Boss: ‘She never said a bad word about him’
Ankita Lokhande's mother defended her against allegations of mentioning Sushant Singh Rajput on the show to gain the audience's sympathy.

Actor Ankita Lokhande’s mother, Vandana, addressed allegations that Ankita has been bringing up the late Sushant Singh Rajput on Bigg Boss to gain sympathy. Ankita and Sushant dated for over half-a-decade before breaking up. Sushant died by suicide in 2020, leading to what Ankita’s mother described as a very difficult period of media attention for the actor.
In an interview with Galatta India, Ankita’s mother said that the actor has only spoken about Sushant on the show when asked to. Over the years, Ankita’s mother said, she has only spoken positively about him, and that she maintains good relations with Sushant’s family members. “In addition to Ankita, even I’ve known Sushant for seven years. And she truly loved him. That’s the sort of person he was,” she said in Hindi.

Ankita’s mother said that after Sushant’s death, when the spotlight came on Ankita and their former relationship, she felt like putting out a video explaining matters once and for all. Ankita’s now husband, Vicky Jain, cooled her down at the time, and encouraged everybody to only remember Sushant fondly. “I used to tell Vicky that I want to tell the whole world the truth by sharing a video, but he told me not to do it,” she said, adding, “Ankita has never spoken about him herself, she only spoke about him when asked to.”
Ankita’s mother said that Ankita has never spoken ill about Sushant, regardless of whether she was hurt by him or not. “In fact, when I got angry at him a few times as a mother, she urged me to stay quiet, and let him live his life,” she said. Ankita has admitted that it took her a long time to get over Sushant, who broke up with her when his Bollywood career began to take off. On Bigg Boss, she said that she hid their break-up for years, and waited for him to return before tearing up his photos to get over the heartbreak.
Opening up about how Vicky supported her after Sushant’s death, Ankita’s mother said, “He would tell her what to write about him on social media, it was very big of him. He would always be there for her when she’d cry. I’ve seen it myself…” The 17th season of Bigg Boss will end later this month, with Ankita being the favourite to win.
