Kanguva, which was supposed to be a huge commercial comeback of Suriya after critically acclaimed films like Jai Bhim and Sorarai Pottru, has unfortunately opened to mixed reviews. While many have been criticising the film's plot and screenplay, others complained about the excessive volume, loud dialogue and music which gave them a "headache". The debate around the excessive volume took a drastic turn when the Academy Award-winning sound mixer Resul Pookutty shared his views. Resul Pookutty, who is also behind songs from films like Pushpa and Kaabil, took to his Instagram handle to share a media post criticising Kanguva's excessive volume detracting the overall movie experience. He wrote, "A friend of mine, a re-recording mixer send me this clip… It is disheartening to see a review about sound in our popular films like this. Our craft and artistry caught up in the loudness war…" The sound mixer blamed "the innumerable fixes" that come last minute for movie's criticism. He said, "Who is to blame?! The sound guy? or the innumerable fixes (that) comes at the last moment to satiate all insecurities. High time our fraternity to put your foot down and say things loud and clear. No film will have a repeat value if the audience walk out with headache!"
