Aamir Khan to make cameo appearance in Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, confirms Upendra: ‘We have combination scenes too’

Putting all rumours to rest, Kannada star Upendra, who plays a key role in Coolie alongside Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, has revealed that Aamir Khan indeed plays a role in the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial.

In this day and age, to keep details regarding a movie under wraps is almost impossible, with eagle-eyed paparazzi and fans always on the prowl to catch exclusive glimpses. This becomes even more difficult if the plan is to have a surprise cameo appearance by a mammoth star. Although speculations were rife that a massive celebrity would make a guest appearance in director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s already star-studded Coolie – with some even predicting that it’s Bollywood icon Aamir Khan – the movie’s team had not made any official announcements in this regard till now. However, Kannada actor Upendra Rao has now put all rumours to rest.

Upendra, who plays a key role in Coolie alongside Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, has now revealed that Aamir Khan indeed plays a role in the much-anticipated action thriller. Upendra then went one step further and also shared that he has a combination scene with the Bollywood superstar.

“I did not ask him anything when Lokesh (Kanagaraj) garu told me the story. For me, it’s enough to get an opportunity to stand next to him (Rajinikanth) for a few minutes. Because if I’m Ekalavya, he’s my Dronacharya. I follow him that much. If it’s entertainment that he gives everyone, I get enlightenment from him. Rajini sir is like that, and I’m blessed to have worked with him,” he shared while speaking to the media following the teaser launch for his upcoming movie 45.

When asked if he shot with Nagarjuna and Aamir Khan too, Upendra said immediately, “Yeah, yeah, we have combination scenes too.” Rajinikanth and Aamir previously worked together in the Hindi film Aatank Hi Aatank (1995). Besides the four stars, Coolie also features Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir and Tamil actors Sathyaraj and Shruti Haasan in key roles.

Tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, Coolie is Lokesh Kanagaraj’s seventh directorial venture but serves as a standalone film, not related to his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, Coolie’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while its cinematography and editing are handled by Girish Gangadharan and Philomin Raj, respectively.

Upendra, who was last seen in his own directorial UI, currently has both Coolie and 45 gearing up for release. Helmed by Arjun Janya, 45 also features Shiva Rajkumar, Raj B Shetty, Chethan Kumar and Jagapathi Babu in key roles. The movie will hit the screens on August 15, a day after the worldwide release of Coolie.
