Janatha Garage box office collection: Jr NTR, Mohanlal-starrer had a sensational start and the film's opening day collection's speaks all.

Koratala Siva-directed bilingual film Janatha Garage hit the screens on Thursday (September 1) where Jr NTR and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal were seen sharing the screen. The film’s story is about two men – one loves nature while the other loves people. The film got a strong word of mouth translating into blockbuster box office collection.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that JanathaGarage, which got a midweek release on Wednesday (August 31) in the USA, got a better start than most Hindi biggies there. “Despite midweek release [Wed], the start of Telugu film #JanathaGarage is much much more than the start of most Hindi biggies in USA,” Taran tweeted.

Taran also wrote: “Going through @Rentrak… Telugu film #JanathaGarage takes a SENSATIONAL start in USA… Telugu film #JanathaGarage is PHENOMENAL, despite midweek release in USA… Wed $ 560,509 [₹ 3.76 cr]. @Rentrak.”

Well, other reports also read that Janatha Garage has collected over Rs. 21 crore  from Andhra and Telangana on the first day of its release. “The film has registered an estimated share of Rs. 21 crore from opening day in the two Telugu states. Despite rains in Hyderabad and a few other regions, audiences went in hordes to watch the NTR-starrer on screen,” trade analyst Trinath said.

According to Trinath, the film is headed for a very strong weekend. “The film is expected to gross over Rs. 50 crore in the opening weekend. Since it released on a Thursday, it has very good chances of shining through the weekend at the box-office,” he said.

The combination of big names like Junior NTR, Mohanlal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Koratala Siva and Devi Sri Prasad had created a lot of hype and expectations about the film much before the release of the film. The film is said to be made on a budget of Rs 40 crore.

The film was released on 1000 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, around 550 screens in other parts of India and 400 screens in the international markets. The movie was released in around 1,950 screens across the globe on September 1.

Reports read that the overseas distributors held premiere shows in around 175 screens in the US and other foreign countries on Wednesday (August 31) night. Its tickets were priced at $25 and some cinema halls offered 20 percent discount. “Having registered good advance booking, Janatha Garage opened to superb response everywhere and collected $560,509 (Rs. 3.76 crore) at the U.S. box office in the previews,” reads other box office reports.

Janatha Garage is said to be the third biggest Tollywood opener of 2016, after Sardaar Gabbar Singh and Brahmotsavam, which grossed Rs 40 crore and Rs 30 crore respectively, at the worldwide box office on their opening day.

Talking about the film and its story, earlier Junior NTR had said: “What happens when these two characters meet at crossroads? It’s an interesting story, emphasising on the importance of nature and people in our lives, in a very commercial and entertaining way. This is probably one script that can’t be dominated by actors.
