During the boom of web series in India, Prime Video’s Mirzapur and Netflix’s Sacred Games rose up as the top two properties in Indian entertainment. Now the former is coming back, but this time as a film. The highly anticipated project has been on the floor for quite some time, and the makers have already wrapped up a couple of schedules. Now, actor Ali Fazal has given a sneak peek into the filming of the movie via a video on social media.
The video features Fazal, dressed as his iconic character Guddu Bhaiya, walking around the set. His demeanour and, most importantly, his gait are all in character, as he is seen towering over the people around him. The lyrics to Sanjay Dutt’s memorable song ‘Nayak Nahi Khal Nayak Hoon Mai’ are playing from the Subhash Ghai film Khal Nayak (1993). While the whole song doesn’t play, the lyrics ‘Kitne khilono se khela hai tu. Afsos, fir bhi akela hai tu’ (You have played with so many toys. Too bad that you’re still alone,) can be heard in the background.

The caption of the post has Fazal gracefully thanking the people of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur for making the whole crew feel at home while shooting there. He wrote, “Mirzapur the film. Shooting now. Rajasthan Schedule. Thank you, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, for the immense love and hospitality that knows no bounds. Aapne humein apna samjha (You thought of us as one of your own)… To all the hotels that made us feel at home while we were toiling away from our own homes.” The video ended with the words “Mirzapur: The Film”. Shooting Now.”
The first episode aired on November 16, 2018, and the fans have since then fallen in love with the characters. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the cast of the film includes Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Divyendu Sharma, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Ravi Kishan, Shweta Tripathi, and Sonal Chauhan.
