The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall wants to work with Ram Charan and Jr NTR: ‘They are really incredible’
American filmmaker Rob Marshall named RRR stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR as the Indian actors he wants to work with. His directorial The Little Mermaid is up for release on May 26.

Every 90s kid has grown up watching the animated film The Little Mermaid on TV. The love story of Ariel, a mermaid, and Prince Eric was truly magical. Not just because it had the couple fighting for their love but it also got us closer to the world below the sea. And for those who missed it, Disney is all set to release a live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film stars Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King in the lead roles. The movie, interestingly, has actors of different ethnicities playing various roles. Calling his version of The Little Mermaid a global film, Marshall even named RRR actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR as the stars on his wishlist.
When asked if he has any Indian actors in mind, who he wants to work with, the director instantly replied, “The Naatu Naatu actors.” Speaking exclusively to indianexpress.com, he further said, “I have to say the two amazing actors in the film. The Naatu Naatu actors… they are just fantastic. The way they came out.. how great they are. Also, they are so physical. They dance so beautifully. They are really incredible.”
RRR song “Naatu Naatu” recently won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category. Prior to the historic win, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and filmmaker SS Rajamouli promoted their film in US. The Telugu movie became the talk of town with legends like Steven Spielberg calling the film ‘outstanding’.

Coming back to The Little Mermaid, Rob Marshall added that Indian-origin actor Simone Ashley also has an interesting part in the film. “We are so proud to work with her. We cast her and then her career just took off with Bridgeton. We are so proud of that,” he added.
The director further shared that there are “so many wonderful actors across the world” and he’ll never get the chance to work with everybody. “Of course, there are some extraordinary Indian actors. I mean we also have Art Malik in our film too, who actually has added his ethnicity to the role.” British actor Art Malik, who hails from Pakistan, plays the loyal butler of Prince Eric and helps him unite with Ariel.
“This is such a global film, and I am so proud that we have embraced so many kinds of actors. Also, listen, let’s all remind each other that we are one and not separate. We are all part of the same entity,” Rob Marshall concluded.
The Little Mermaid will hit cinema halls on May 26.
