Zeenat Aman recalls the ‘joyful’ days of working with Dev Anand, hints at the ‘only misunderstanding’ they had
Zeenat Aman shared her fond memories of shooting with Dev Anand for Heera Panna and Ishk Ishk Ishk.
After Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Zeenat Aman and Dev Anand starred together in Heera Panna. Zeenat Aman made her silver screen debut as Dev Anand’s sister in 1971’s Hare Rama Hare Krishna. She went on to play the actor-filmmaker’s romantic interest in several films. On Wednesday, Zeenat took to Instagram to share a few anecdotes about working with Dev. The Satyam Shivam Sundaram star said that the age gap between them was nearly 30 years and after the 1971 film “he did not yet see me as a romantic lead”.
She recalled the time when she shot with Dev for 1973’s Heera Panna and “had a blast shooting that film”. The actor also shared a still from the set of the film. Calling Dev a “dynamic mentor”, she further recalled another collaboration they had in Ishk Ishk Ishk. Without sharing any “gossipy details” from the set of the film, Zeenat said that “that there were plenty of dalliances and heartbreaks unfolding behind the scenes”.

Zeenat Aman continued, “Dev saab was on a roll. Working with him was seamless and joyful. He was a fount of creative energy, and I was delighted to have his guidance. It would have been easy for him to tie me down to a contract, but he had the grace to never even suggest it. Thus allowing me a chance to spread my wings.” Zeenat suggested that amid all the success, there was a “misunderstanding” between them both and wrote, “My career was booming, fresh offers were pouring in, but alas, one of these, led to the first and only misunderstanding between Dev saab and myself…”
In Dev Anand’s autobiography Romancing With Life, the actor-filmmaker suggested that Zeenat being cast in Raj Kapoor’s Satyam Shivam Sundaram created a rift between the two.
