When Shahid Kapoor felt he would have to ‘protect’ Mira Rajput from ‘big bad world of movies and glamour’
Shahid Kapoor recently opened up about how marrying Mira Rajput brought a sense of responsibility, making him feel the need to protect her from the "big bad world of movies and glamour."

National heartthrob Shahid Kapoor’s marriage to Delhi-based Mira Rajput in 2015 — when she was just 20 and still a college student and he was 34 and an established movie star — broke many hearts and generated headlines. Since then, they have been a fan-favourite power couple and nearly a decade later, the two are happily married, raising their two children — daughter Misha and son Zain.
When Shahid first announced his impending marriage to Mira, many were surprised by his decision to tie the knot with someone completely unconnected to the film industry. Reflecting on their arranged marriage, Shahid once shared that what stood out to him most was how unaffected Mira was by his celebrity status. In an interview with Mid-Day last year, he revealed feeling “a little embarrassed” during their initial meeting through an arranged marriage setup, but was struck by how unfazed she was by his stardom.
Recently, Shahid Kapoor opened up about how marrying Mira Rajput brought a sense of responsibility, making him feel the need to protect her from the “big bad world of movies and glamour.” Speaking to journalist Faye D’Souza, he described their arranged marriage as the best decision of his life, calling Mira his ideal life partner. The actor said, “When we got married, I thought that I would have to protect her because she is this 20-year-old girl who’s just coming from Delhi. And this is a big bad world of movies and glamour, and everybody is so judgy.”
He further remarked, “She has recognised that he (Shahid) is an actor, but I am more socially comfortable. She got more comfortable in the parties that I had been attending for years… even before I got comfortable in there. I was like, she’s already more comfortable than I was.” Shahid then went on to praise Mira as a solid, self-assured and extremely intelligent woman, while also noting that her stubbornness has been key to protecting herself.
Currently, Shahid Kapoor — last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) — is busy filming the action thriller Deva (2025).
