What Amitabh Bachchan told Bishan Singh Bedi years after he stopped speaking to son Angad over his shorn hair: ‘Your son is meant to…’
Legendary cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi didn't speak to son Angad Bedi for almost 20 years after he cut his hair to get into the acting industry. It was Amitabh Bachchan who helped breach the discord.

Angad Bedi, who had a strained relationship with his father and cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi after he decided to cut his hair for his profession, recently revealed how his Pink co-star Amitabh Bachchan made things better between him and his father. The actor recalled how his father didn’t speak to him for 20 years after he cut his hair as a teenager.
In the latest episode of Cyrus Says, Angad Bedi revealed, “He (Amitabh Bachchan) sat with my dad when the makers arranged a joint screening (for Pink) and invited people in Delhi. He just told my dad that your son is meant to be in cinema. Don’t worry about the haircut.”
Angad revealed that his dad, who usually never complimented him, came and hugged him after the incident. He said, “My dad came to me, hugged me and said ‘not bad son’.”
Speaking about his decision to have his hair cut despite being a Sikh, the actor claimed that he was categorically told that his long-haired look won’t work for the movies. In the same interview, he said, “I thought if I have to go into it full throttle, I will do what it takes. Now, my father was upset for 20 years, till the time Pink released. After the film, he told me, ‘Son, now you justify your haircut to me.’ He hugged me after Pink.”
He added, “I remember I had cut my hair at 18-19, and Pink happened when I was 33. So, till that time he didn’t talk. He was really hurt, and that’s the time he hugged me and said, ‘You’ve chosen your path and you’re going to do well. So, carry on. But choose your films wisely after this.”
After Pink’s success, Angad Bedi starred in Salman Khan-starrer Tiger Zinda Hai, Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi, and the Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, among others. In 2023, he was seen in the films Hi Nanna, Ghoomer, and Lust Stories 2.
Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on October 23, 2023, due to a prolonged illness.
