Six men arrested in Pimpri Chinchwad; eight pistols seized, probe on

IN A major drive against illegal firearms, the crime branch of the Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested six persons and seized as many as eight country-made pistols and seven cartridges from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team laid a trap and nabbed three persons near Sonawane Vasti in Chikhali around 6 pm on December 11.

During a search, the police seized four pistols and three live cartridges from the suspects identified Omkar Siddhesh Bandgar (21), Abhay Vikas Survase (27) and Suhas alias Pilya Gaikwad (27). All three are original residents of Dharashiv district, currently residing in Pimpri Chinchwad.

An FIR was lodged against them at Chikhali police station under various sections of the Indian Arms Act. Assistant police inspector Ram Gomare, the investigation officer, said all three accused are history-sheeters. “A probe is on to know from where and for what purpose they had procured the illegal firearms,” Gomare said.

Police said a ‘Tadipar’ (externment) order was issued against accused Survase for a period of two years from June 17, 2025. But he still entered the Pimpri Chinchwad police jurisdiction illegally and was arrested with possession of firearms, police said.

Meanwhile, crime branch personnel nabbed Samir Lakshman Ijgaj (27), a resident of Marunji, on the Ravet–Aundh road in Tathawade around 8 pm on December 11. The police seized two country-made pistols and two live cartridges from his possession. An FIR was lodged against him at the Wakad police station.

Also, the police arrested Rohit Mahadev Agarkhed (22) near Mother Teresa bridge in Kalewadi around 7.20 pm on December 11. Police seized a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from him during the search. An FIR was lodged against him at Kalewadi police station.

Around 12.25 am on December 12, the crime branch team nabbed Dharmendra Hariprasad Sain (25) from the Alandi Markal road in Charholi Khurd, with possession of a country-made pistol and a live cartridge. An FIR was lodged against him at the Alandi police station. Police said accused Sain is an original resident of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, but was currently residing in Khed taluka of Pune district.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Shivaji Pawar said that a prima-facie probe suggests that the accused had procured the illegal firearms from Madhya Pradesh, but an investigation is on to confirm the source of seized weapons.
