SOTY turns 11: Alia Bhatt’s first impression of Varun Dhawan was ‘he had too much attitude’, Sidharth Malhotra was ‘too quiet’

It’s a day of celebration for Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra as their first film Student of the Year turns 11 on Thursday. The film marked their entry into Bollywood, post which all three of them went on to do some remarkable work. The trio also share a warm friendship as they took their baby steps as actors together.

However, it was not all hunky-dory since the start as Alia had her doubts about Sidharth and Varun when she first met them at the workshop. In an old interview with Sony Music, she shared how she did not like Varun and thought Sidharth was too quiet. “I thought Varun had too much of an attitude. Also, we both came from rival schools. As for Sidharth, he kept to himself. But as and when I got to know them, it was fun and we really had a fun time shooting.”

Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra on the other hand had mutual love for each other, having already been assistant directors on My Name is Khan. Sidharth shared that Alia was just like he had imagined her to be ‘girly and bubbly’.

Directed by Karan Johar, Student of the Year also starred Rishi Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Ram Kapoor and Sana Saeed among others. Dharma Movies shared a snippet from the film and wrote in the caption, “The one competition they ALL won was the one of your hearts…11 years ago!🫶🎬.”

Fans seemed quite excited about the anniversary as they dropped heartfelt comments on the post. Some of the comments read, “The one where it all started 🥺❤✨,” “Reunion is needed!!🥺🥺🥺,” “How time flies so fast 🥺😭❤️” and “Still feels Goosebumps 🔥🔥.”

Sidharth, Alia and Varun’s future projects

Alia Bhatt recently was honoured with the National Award for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actor had a successful year with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and also made her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone. She next has Vasan Bala’s Jigra, which she is co-producing with Karan Johar. Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershaah was also awarded at the National Award ceremony. The actor is now prepping up for his digital debut with Indian Police Force. Varun Dhawan, on the other hand, has Atlee-backed VD18 and is also the face of global show Citadel’s Indian version.

On the personal front, while Alia Bhatt is married to Ranbir Kapoor and welcomed her first child last year. Sidharth Malhotra tied the knot with Shershaah co-star Kiara Advani and Varun Dhawan is married to childhood sweetheart Natasha Dalal.
