When Seema Sajdeh signed up for Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, she knew her journey wouldn’t be as straight and simple as other wives she was co-starring with. While Maheep Kapoor, Bhavna Panday and Neelam Kothari were all married, she was separated from actor-husband Sohail Khan.

The natural question that the Netflix show producers had for her was, “How do you want to portray yourself on the show?” Seema Sajdeh had only one answer. “‘Never tell a lie,’ these were my mother’s words ringing in my head.”

In a podcast with Shivani Pau, the fashion designer said, “I just told my producer that look, whatever it is, it has to be the truth. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings,” the reality TV star said during a podcast.”

Seema went on to share that she was only concerned about how her sons, Nirvan and Yohan, would react to her decision to be open about her separation on the show. Sohail and Seema got divorced last year after being married for 24 years.

“The only thing I needed to do was, Yohan was too young then, so I needed to make sure that Nirvan was ok with it because eventually they have to go to school, you don’t want to embarrass or upset them. So you have to be sensitive. They are still kids, they don’t process like adults. So I had to be sensitive to that,” she said.

While the news of their separation came as a shock to the audience, Seema said she was left amused looking at the reactions of industry insiders considering she and Sohail had been living separately for years.

“A lot of people called me after the show, people who I interact with quite regularly and they said, ‘I didn’t know you were separated!’ I told them, ‘Are you bonkers?! Did you not know this!’ I don’t find anything about the show hard, why should I lie. My problem is, I shoot my mouth off so sometimes I need to be handled when I speak. I talk too much, so I need to be reined in,” she said.

At this point, the fashion designer also emphasised that the series has never been scripted. “I told the producers don’t prepare me, not that they ever do. Contrary to popular belief, nothing on Bollywood Wives is scripted, ever. I told them if I am asked a question (about the separation), I will just say it,” she said.
