A 62-year-old cyclist died after being struck by a speeding Thar near the Sector 23/24 intersection in Chandigarh.
A 62-year-old man was killed in a road accident after he was allegedly hit by a speeding Thar (Jeep).
The victim was identified as Milkha Singh, a resident of Sector 38. He worked as a helper at Shivalikview Hotel in Sector 17.
Police sources claim that the Thar was being driven by a young woman at the time of the accident.
Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to verify the details and identify the accused.
According to the police, on Thursday afternoon, while returning home from work, the victim was cycling through the divided road near the Sector 23/24 intersection when the speeding Thar hit him with great force. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Police rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and shifted the injured to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was kept in the mortuary and will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
Police officials said CCTV cameras in the vicinity are being closely reviewed to ascertain the vehicle’s registration number and identify the driver. The investigation is currently underway.
The Sector-11 police station has registered a case against the unidentified driver and begun an investigation.
