Talking about the struggles her mother Neena Gupta faced when she was pregnant with Masaba, the designer said, “When she was pregnant with me she didn’t have her mom around, her father was against it because it was out of wedlock. My father Viv Richards wasn’t around, and friends were around but it was not the same, everyone had their life. She couldn’t tell people that she was pregnant with me, so she had to hide her pregnancy. She didn’t have money. When I asked her how she managed through all of this she just said, ‘I was very happy to have a child of my own. I had no clue how I would bring you up.'”

When asked if Masaba faced any sort of discrimination in school, the actress revealed how she had to constantly deal with the ‘bast**d’ tag. “It was used against me 100 percent, it was public and it was very interesting because the kids would speak about it like adults. I could hear them repeating something they heard in their house. One kid went on to say, ‘Hey bast**d, I believe you are a bast**d child’. This was when I was in the 7th grade. A lot of people also didn’t understand how I looked physically or why I looked like that,” she shared.

Masaba Gupta further added, “There was a lot of catcalling from the boys about my body. I was a professional tennis player, so I had these broad shoulders and ripped arms and legs. I also developed very early, so I was not dainty, or feminine, so it was like where is this thing from? I was very happy in my own bubble in school, I did my own thing. I didn’t make great friends in school which I regret apart 2-3 of them.”

Masaba was featured with her mother Neena Gupta in the web series Masaba Masaba, the show has had two successful seasons on Netflix. Last year, the actress got married to her co-star Satydeep Misra, and the two are now expecting their first child to arrive next month.
