Jaya Bachchan revealed she has suffered hearing loss because of all the screaming in the ParliamentJaya Bachchan’s recent remarks about paparazzi culture sparked widespread outrage on social media. In the same interview with The Mojo Story, the veteran actor recalled taking a break from acting to raise her kids – Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Jaya, who is also a member of the Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Samajwadi party, also spoke about becoming short of hearing after listening to screaming in the upper house.
Why Jaya Bachchan gave up acting
While talking to journalist Barkha Dutt at the We The Women event in Mumbai, Jaya revealed that she was doing her makeup at home before shoots, but her daughter wanted to spend more time with her mother. “My daughter gets very upset when I say this. But, what I started doing was that I would do my makeup at home, so that I could spend more time with her. And one day, she asked what I was doing, I told her makeup for my shoot. She said, ‘You don’t go, let paa go’. It hit me. She had people taking care of her, it was always a joint family. But still, a child wants her mother there. She said it very innocently,” she said.
The actor further added, “I felt that it was time to step back. I started refusing films. Moreover, I was fed up because I was getting the same kind of roles. Either you play Guddi or Upahaar, or you play Abhimaan. So, there was nothing in between. I would have loved some other role, but nothing new was coming. This interested me more – the role of a mother and wife, than going and performing.”
Jaya says was most disturbed after Shweta’s marriage
However, when Shweta got married to Nikhil Nanda in 1997, Jaya felt lonely and decided to return to the film industry. “After Shweta got married, I felt a loneliness. I’ve never been so disturbed in my life, like I did when she got married. I don’t know what happened, I just could not stop crying. I was the hardest mother to this child but there was something that just left me. Fortunately, Govind Nihalani came to me with Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, and I agreed,” she shared.

Jaya Bachchan has been making headlines for her opinion and relationship with the paparazzi. She said, “I am the product of the media, but my relationship with paparazzi is zero. Who are these people? Are they trained to represent the people of this country? You call them media? I come from the media. My father was a journalist. I have tremendous respect for such people.”
The 77-year-old continued, “But ye jo bahar drain-pipe type gande gande pants pehen kar, haath me mobile le ke (these people with poor clothes, holding a mobile in their hands). They think just because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want and the kind of comments they pass.”
