Actor Jaideep Ahlawat operates with no dos and don’ts. There is no role he would avoid if it is exciting him, even if its “look” isn’t what an actor would be easily drawn towards, case in point, Jaane Jaan.

The Kareena Kapoor headlined thriller, which also stars Vijay Varma, features Jaideep as a Math genius, with a partial-bald look, who is deceptively frightening, intense and mysterious.

Jaideep Ahlawat said Sujoy Ghosh wasn’t sure he would be keen to take up the role if he heard what ‘look’ he had in the thriller. Jaane Jaan released last week on Netflix to good word of mouth.

“I don’t have any dos and don’ts. I remember when Sujoy was narrating me Jaane Jaan, I could see on his face that he was thinking, ‘If I tell him what the look of the character is, he might back out.’ But I think any actor–who is actually an actor from his heart–will never turn down a part like this, because they would know it is going to be a very interesting, challenging part. I don’t think there is a role that I don’t want to do. I haven’t thought about that at all yet,” Jaideep told Indianexpress.com.

The actor was speaking at The Himalayan Film Festival, where Jaane Jaan was screened on the opening day. Jaideep’s other feature, Avinash Arun directed Three of Us, was the closing film of the festival. The actor, who shot to nation-wide fame with Paatal Lok in 2020, said the current phase feels “dream like” and he is enjoying every moment of the acclaim coming his way.

“You always wait for the time when you will get a lot of love. when that happens, it is an overwhelming feeling. When people tell you that your presence in a film is like an asset, it is a deeply satisfying feeling. It is also a responsibility that you must work hard for it to continue.”

But does the audience expectation dictate what he is going to pick next? Jaideep said he still prefers to rely on his instinct, trying to mute the expectations as much as he can.

“It is definitely somewhere in the back of my mind, but you choose something for yourself first, and not for the outside world. You choose because you feel maybe you will get to do something different here, explore something new. It is a personal journey first, then it becomes universal. It is not a pressure, but the attempt is to do something new,” he added.
