Aamir Khan, famously known as the ‘Mr Perfectionist’ of Bollywood, showcased his unparalleled dedication to his craft when he bared it all in the opening scene of his 2014 film PK. While appearing on a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Aamir recounted the behind-the-scenes challenges of shooting this critical scene and the lengths he had to go to in order to capture the perfect shot.

During the conversation, Aamir said he shared his initial concerns with the movie’s director, Rajkumar Hirani, about filming the opening scene. However, Hirani reassured him by promising to provide specially made shorts that would cover his frontal area, drawing a comparison to wearing an abdominal guard in cricket. Additionally, Hirani persuaded Aamir by suggesting they shoot the scene in the sparsely populated desert of Rajasthan.

However, on the day of the shoot, the specially-made shorts proved ineffective as they kept slipping off Aamir’s body while he ran. Recounting the experience, Aamir humorously said, “On the shooting day, I wore those shorts. I came out with the radio. All phones were hidden on the set. I had to run in that scene. Till the time I was walking, it was okay, but when I had to run…(laughs). When I would run, the shorts would come off because it was fixed by a tape.”

He added, “I faced a lot of difficulty in that shot. After one or two attempts, I told Raju, ‘Hatta yaar (Let’s remove it).’ I wanted to give the perfect shot. So I chucked it aside. I told everyone to go far behind the camera and I ran. ”

Reflecting on his initial apprehensions, Aamir admitted feeling embarrassed at the thought of appearing nude on set. However, once he was in the moment, his focus shifted entirely to the task at hand, and he realised that the scene’s success was more important than any discomfort or embarrassment he may have felt.

He said, “The reason behind doing this was that I used to feel ashamed thinking about this scene. I used to think that it would be really weird, me walking naked on the set. We are not used to it. I used to feel anxious about how I would do it. Everyone would be watching. I was feeling very embarrassed. But I swear, when I came on the set, I just wanted to work and my shot was getting messed up. So I told Raju, ‘These are unimportant things. What’s the big deal if you see me naked? We need to get the shot.’ I didn’t feel embarrassed at that time. I was also shocked that I did it.”

PK garnered widespread acclaim upon its release, and it quickly ascended to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The movie had amassed a staggering worldwide gross of Rs 769.89 crore.
