The first of its kind computer-based Common Aptitude Test (CAT) for the aspirants of Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) started off with a technical problem in the city. Around 100 candidates at College of Engineering,Pune,(CoEP) centre could not write the exam due to system failure.
These students will get another chance to appear for the exam. The date and time of the exam will be conveyed to them by the CAT administration. The officials have clarified that there would be no change in schedule of sessions to be conducted on Sunday at CoEP.
To maintain utmost secrecy,this year the CAT is computer-based and to be held over a period of 10 days in 20 sessions. Till last year,candidates used to solve the written exam on the same day.
However,on the very first day of the commencement of the exam,there was a problem with the system at CoEP centre where 200 students had appeared for the exam in the first session. According to officials,server failed in three computer labs where around 100 students were supposed to appear for the exam,which started at 10 am.
The CAT expert team rectified the problem in two hours. However,as the second session was to follow at 3.30 pm,we could not give the students time to solve the paper. The CAT administration has assured that all these students will get a chance to appear for the exam and time and date will be conveyed to them by the CAT authorities soon, said in-charge of the CoEP centre.
The official said the second session passed off smoothly. There will be no change in the schedule of the further sessions which will continue till December 7, he said.
Around 10,000 students from the city will appear for the exam this year. There are four centres in the city College of Engineering,Pune,Padmashree Dr D Y Patil Institute of Engineering and Technology,Sant Tukaramnagar,Pimpri,Pimpri- Chinchwad College of Engineering,Nigdi and Sinhagad College of Engineering,Wadgaon Budruk.
There were no reports of system failure or other problems from other three centres in the city.
