Written by Sk Safrin Begum As the recent heavy rain pelted Pune, turning streets into streams and homes into islands, the RESQ Charitable Trust team emerged as a beacon of hope for the animals in distress. Armed with boats and rescue personnel, the RESQ Charitable Trust team embarked on a mission to ensure the safety and well-being of every animal in need and made a significant impact in low-lying areas like Karve, Deccan, Koregaon Park, and Pimpri Chinchwad. “We are primarily a wildlife rescue organisation but yesterday (Thursday) our helpline numbers were flooded with calls since 6:30 am… because of which our trained team of 12 stepped in and started the rescue mission with the help of the PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) and the fire department for effective evacuation,” said Neha Panchamiya, Founder-President, RESQ Charitable Trust. Through Thursday, over 30 animals were rescued by the RESQ Charitable Trust team in collaboration with the Pune Fire Department and the PCMC. “One particularly noteworthy rescue took place in an area near Pimpri Market, where a lady was trapped in her house with 14 dogs and one cat. Navigating through the narrow hutments where barely two people could walk side by side was extremely challenging with chest-high water adding to the complexity of the situation. However, we managed to ensure the safety of all,” said Tuhin Satarkar, Head of Rescues, RESQ Charitable Trust. The RESQ Charitable Trust can be contacted on the helpline – 9172511100.
