Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak Wednesday said no additional water cuts will be introduced this summer and assured the civic body will continue to supply water once a day. Pathak was speaking at a meeting of the BJP corporators organised by PMC.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, chief of water supply department of PMC V G Kulkarni and other senior staffers of PMC were also present.
Heavy water cuts were imposed last summer due to acute water shortage. Corporator Medha Kulkarni who attended the meet said Pathak was asked about his water management plans for the summer.
He said that there was 12.21 TMC water stored in the dams that provide water for the city. Currently, the PMC is drawing 1.25 TMC water per month and it will continue to do so till July 31. With that the city will not have to face any additional cut. The corporators raised the issue of increased demand of water in the summer to which the officials said they dont have any plan to deal with it as of now, said Kulkarni.
The corporators have also demanded the PMC undertake rain water harvesting at offices of the PMC,civic schools and auditoriums constructed by PMC and gardens run by the civic body.
PMC administration has agreed to take up rain harvesting projects. The officials promised that the rain harvesting projects would be installed at PMC offices and other buildings run by them, said Kulkarni.
