COEP alumni meet on December 25
The College of Engineering,Pune (CoEP) will organise the third global reunion of its alumni on December 25. Vijay Saraswat,director of Defence Research and Development Organisation,will be the chief guest. According to chairman of alumni association of CoEP R Vasudevan,noted alumni of the college,including Vijay Kelkar (1962 batch),chairman of National Stock Exchange,cartoonist Vasant Sarawate (1951 batch),Narayan Maharaj Dhekane (1952 batch),Vishwanath Khaire (1951 batch) and Harish Joshi (1985 batch) will be felicitated at the event.

They will be interacting with the students during the event. Alumni of CoEP can log on to http://www.coepalumni.net to register themselves for the event. The Alumni Association of CoEP has a network of 9,000 Indian and 2,000 US-based members along with 4,000 CoEP staff and students. The association has a database of 36 years.

Forms available for scholarship of “n+i” network
One can now apply for the corporate scholarship programme of the “n+i” engineering network in collaboration with leading tyre manufacturer Michelin Tyres. These scholarships will be offered to meritorious students of engineering from India for post graduate studies for two years in France for the academic year starting September 2011.

Michelin Tyres will offer four full scholarships of around 20-25 000 Euros each for two years for Indian students who wish to enroll in an MS programme in all core engineering fields through “n+i” network which works in collaboration with the higheroffice of the French embassy in India. The application form for the above said corporate scholarship is available at the website of ‘n+i’ http://www.nplusi.com. The last date to apply is March 6,2011.

“No prior knowledge of French is required at the time of application. There is no bond that students need to sign with the company. Selection will be done on the basis of academic merit,coherence of the statement of purpose,quality of recommendation letters and a personal interview,” an official said.

Inter-school science competition at Andhra School
Andhra High School hosted an inter-school science competition J-saw (Junior Scientists at Work) last week. The competition had working models as well as posters exhibited in two categories – one for students from Class V to VII and one for students from Class VIII to X. Ramesh Joshi,director of Muktangan Exploratory Science Centre inaugurated the event. While Saint Mira’s Secondary School and S D Kataria High School won the first prize in working model competition,Andhra High School and HHCP High School won first prize in poster competition. R G Pardeshi,principal of Fergusson College,and Arvind Paranjape,scientist at IUCAA judged the event. Principal of Andhra High School Renu Sumbaly welcomed the guests.

Eabs organises event on extracurricular activities
Europe Asia Business School (EABS) organised an event titled Mandi that proved to be a fine balance between academic rigour and the participation of students in extra-curricular activities. The three-day event saw EABS students selling products manufactured by Navnirmiti,an NGO,with the proceeds being used for the education of underprivileged children and for those from special schools. The articles sold were high-quality science and maths learning tools called Jodo and Number Balance,and The Story of My Experiments with Truth,autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi. A pre-Mandi session was held on December 3 at EABS to discuss the event in-depth. Forty-two students formed groups of two. Sandeep Vishwakarma and Santosh Kelkar registered maximum sales and are leading the race to be the winning team. Over Rs 30,000 was raised.
