‘Existence of party under threat’: HAM chief Santosh Kumar Suman offers to resign as Bihar minister

Santosh Kumar Suman is the president of Hindustani Awam Morcha (ANI/File Photo) Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) president and son of Jitan Ram Manjhi, Santosh Kumar Suman, Tuesday offered to resign as a minister in the Bihar government.
Santosh was the minister of SC and ST Welfare Department in the Nitish Kumar-led government.
Speaking to reporters, Santosh said, “The existence of our party was under threat, this is why I took this step.”
“They did not invite us (to the grand Opposition meet on June 23). They don’t recognise us as a party, how will they invite us,” Santosh added.
Manjhi had announced Santosh as the president of HAM last year in April.
According to news agency PTI, HAM had four MLAs in the Bihar government. Sources in the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ told the news agency that if HAM pulls out of the alliance, “it would not have a bearing on the survival of the government.”
