Reactions to Magnetic Fields, the annual music festival that made its debut last year in Rajasthan, were split down the middle. Many loved it and compared it to the first year of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, when it was viewed as a festival by people from the indie music scene and restricted to patrons entrenched in it. Then there were others who thought Magnetic Fields is expensive and has no new music acts to offer, be it international or local.
On paper it seems like the organisers have learnt from their debut. While they aren’t ready to talk about the pricing of the tickets of the festival that will be held from December 12-14, there is a buzz about them being much cheaper than last year. The tickets which go live on Wednesday, offer several options for patrons with varying budgets. Also, the line-up already looks exciting, though very few names have been announced. Then there is always the venue, Alsisar Mahal, which is stunning.
Among the Indian acts, watch out for Begum and Delhi Sultanate’s new solo avatar BassFoundation Roots. While there aren’t any ‘big’ international names to speak of, it’s time to start Soundclouding music by dream pop Parisian producer Dream Koala, British garage house DJ Flava, multimedia artiste and producer Zahed Sultan and singer-songwriter Graciela Maria, among others.
