A sessions court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to two shopkeepers accused of carrying out unauthorised construction in their shop which caused the partial collapse of a building on Lamington Road and death of a senior citizen.
After the Yusuf Manzil building collapsed last month, the shopkeepers Yusuf Memon and his son Irfan Memon had moved an anticipatory bail application with the sessions court on the ground that their shop had developed a huge crack and repair was unavoidable.
The father-son duo had said that, that the building was more than 100 years old and this is not the first time a portion of it collapsed.
Memons, who owned an electrical appliances shop on the ground floor of Yusuf Manzil, were booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, mischief, endangering life of others and under various relevant sections of the MRTP Act.
