Tue Nov 17: multi-faith prayer
U.S.-based Jewish NGO Simon Wiesenthal Center and India’s Art of Living Foundation have convened the event with Hindu,Muslim,Jewish,Christian,Buddhist and other faith leaders,as well as survivors of terrorism,local leaders and foreign dignitaries. After a programme at 3 pm in the Sunset Room of Trident Hotel,they will proceed to Chabad House. Among the religious dignitaries expected are Swami Gnana Tej of the Art of Living Foundation; Rabbi Abraham Cooper,Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance; Dr. Khwaja Iftikhar Ahmed,an eminent Islamic leader and Founder of the Interfaith Harmony Foundation of India; Ervad Dr Ramiyar Parvez Karanjia,Zoroastrian scholar; Father Ceasar D’Mello,Rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus of Mumbai; Dr. Ashok Arora,Chief of Education Division,Bharat Soka Gakkai; Sri Raman Tikka of the Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram; and Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz,Director of the Chabad Mumbai Relief Fund. Also in attendance will be survivors of last year’s attacks,and Orna Sagiv,Israeli Consul General in Mumbai,and several local dignitaries.
Tue Nov 17: music video
Former IPS officer and lawyer Y. P. Singh will release a music video,Yahi Sach Hain,at the Police Gymkhana on Charni Road. Former police commissioner Julio Rebeiro and the wife of slain Anti Terrorism-Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare will attend the event. In 2004,YP Singh had resigned from the Indian Police Service (IPS) after 20 years,citing corruption within the force and lack of encouragement.
Wed Nov 25: remembrance
The National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) and the Public Concern for Governance Trust will organise “26/11 We Remember”,a prayer service followed by an orchestra performance and bhajans by Anup Jalota,at Trident Hotel. Family members of some of those killed at Trident are expected to be present. The Ratna Nidhi Trust will announce funds to support the children of victims.
Thu Nov 26: martyrs memorial
Home Minister P. Chidambaram will inaugurate the memorial at the Police Gymkhana on the anniversary. It is a 26-foot-high and 11-foot-wide plaque of black granite,with 16 amar jyotis (electronic candles that will burn round the clock) in memory of 16 cops who died that evening. Their names will be inscribed in gold on the plaque. A prayer service will be held in the morning at CST; it will be headed by the general manager,Central Railways,B.B. Modgil.
