The Gurgaon police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly shooting at a 25-year-old married woman at her workplace after she turned down a marriage proposal from one of the accused.
The incident took place on the intervening night of December 19 and 20. The woman, Kalpana, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi, was shot in the stomach and admitted to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the prime accused, Tushar alias Jonty, 25, a resident of Sangam Vihar in Delhi who works for a private company, had befriended Kalpana about six months ago. He wanted to marry her, but she refused repeatedly.

Tushar’s accomplice, Shubham alias Johnny, 24, also from Sangam Vihar, assisted him in the crime, the police said.
“On the night of the incident, the duo went to the club where Kalpana was present. Tushar proposed marriage again. When she refused, he allegedly fired at her with a pistol before fleeing the spot. The two then escaped to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh,” a Gurgaon police spokesperson said.
Kalpana’s husband filed a complaint at the Sector 29 police station after receiving a call from her around 1 am on December 20 informing him about the attack. He also mentioned a previous incident about a month earlier when Tushar had visited their home, quarrelled, and fired shots.
A case was registered under relevant sections, and a joint team from the Sector 40 Crime Branch and M G Road police post arrested the accused on December 25 from Baraut.
“During initial interrogation, Tushar admitted to the crime, citing repeated refusals as the motive. He also confessed to the earlier firing at the victim’s house. Further investigation is ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
On November 5, two days after a 17-year-old girl was shot at by a man who had allegedly been harassing her after she stopped speaking to him, the accused was arrested by the Faridabad police.
The incident had taken place at Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony. The police identified the man as Jitender alias Jatin, 30, a resident of Saramathla in Gurgaon district.
“Jatin, an accountant at Rawal Institute College in Jakhopur, Faridabad, had known the girl for about a year, as both visited the same library. She had stopped talking to him two weeks ago. He had been stalking her since 2024,” a police spokesperson had said.
“On November 3, he followed her on a motorcycle, demanded to speak, and opened fire when she refused. He fled while leaving the country-made pistol at the spot,” the spokesperson had added.
The girl was returning home from a library in the evening when Jatin, who had been waiting outside, fired at her from close range. CCTV footage showed he aimed at her head, but the bullet grazed her left shoulder and forearm.
