Punjab register second consecutive win

Punjab team once again shone when they registered their second win in men’s category in the 13th Zonal National Handball Championship being held at PAU on Thursday. Last year’s winner Chhatisgarh also won their first match. In women section,Punjab team suffered loss against Manipur.

Meanwhile,in men’s section,Delhi had to struggle hard to beat the Gujarat. The star studded Gujarat team failed to put up a decent performance in front of Delhi players. Showing better coordination between them,the Delhi team prevailed over Gujarat by 38-36. For Delhi,Ramesh Chand top scored with 10 points while Deepak scored nine goals. Meanwhile,Anil scored 11 goals while international star Praveen scored nine goals for Gujarat. In another match,Chhatisgarh team did not face any resistance from Bihar side and scored an emphatic 41-22 win. For the winners it was S Nagesh who scored 10 while Binu B. Kavita scored five goals. For Bihar,Sanjeev Singh scored 12 while Younis Khan scored four goals. In third match,Punjab beat Tamil Nadu in a one-sided match. For the host team Mohinder Singh (10) and Mangal Singh (5) were the star performers.

In women’s section,all the three matches played turned out to be one-sided affair. Maharashtra outplayed Assam 33-11 in the first match. Jawala Shinde scored 12 while Gagutri Kawale scored seven goals for the winners. In the second match,Manipur showed its supremacy by defeating the Punjab team by 28-19. Shundhyaram scored 18 and Reebika scored five goals,respectively. In the last match,Delhi team thrashed Assam by 39-5. For the winning team it was Varuni Negi who top scored with 14 goals.
