DMCH professor completes training programme in US

Dr Sandeep Kaushal,an associate professor of pharmacology and consultant epileptologist at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH),has returned home after completing a three-month training programme in pharmacogenomics at the Centre for Human Genome Variation,Institute for Genomic Science and Policy,Duke University,Durham,USA.

He was selected at the national level for the training programme by the department of Biotechnology,Department of Science and Technology,Government of India.

During his training,he worked in close coordination with Professor David B Goldstein and learnt various techniques used for gene studies namely DNA extraction from blood,brain and sputum,RNA extraction,genotyping using Taqman Assay,polymerase chain reaction,DNA gel electrophoresis,western blot and tissue culture among others. He also attended the epilepsy clinic with Professor Rodney A Radtke,medical director of the Epilepsy Centre,Duke University.

Dr Kaushal is an alumnus of DMCH and he completed his MBBS in 1994 and MD (Pharmacology) in 1997. He was adjudged as the best post-graduate in medical sciences.
