Secretary and spokesperson of All India Congress Committee,Manish Tewari,on Saturday ridiculed the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments claims of being pro-farmer.
Addressing a series of meetings in different villages in the assembly segments of Jagaron,Dakha and Raikote,Tewari said the SAD-BJP alliance had never bothered about the interest of farmers and were only interested in remaining in power.
Tewari claimed that the present government had increased the minimum support price for farmers by a meagre Rs 30 while the Congress had enhanced it by Rs 300.
Moreover,he added that farmers were not being given timely payment and corruption was rampant.
He observed that the Congress had provided efficient governance in the last five years and had insulated the countrys economy from global recession. He also asserted the need for Congress to return to power at the Centre to continue the pace of progress in the country.
Tewari addressed gatherings at Hatur,Burj Kular,Chakar,Lakha,Manuke,Cheema,Kaunke,Chajawal and other villages on Saturday. He was accompanied by Jagraon MLA Gurdeep Singh Bhaini,Raikote MLA Harmohinder Singh,former minister Malkiat Singh Dakha,Punjab Housfed Chairman K K Bawa,Pritam Akhara,Inderjit Jhanji,Major Singh Bhaini,Kamaljit Singh Brar,Pawan Dewan,Kaka Grewal,Raman Kumar,Ramandeep Khera and Akshya Bhanot.
