In a first for the Capital, the Delhi Police has registered two FIRs for traffic violations related to driving on the wrong side of the road. While one of the FIRs was filed at Delhi Cantonment police station on January 3, another was registered at Kapashera police station on Monday — both under BNS Section 281 (rash driving) and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The FIRs were registered by Traffic assistant sub-inspectors posted at their respective traffic circles.
“I was on traffic duty at Slip Road towards Hanuman Mandir Red Light in Delhi Cantt, at about 04:45 pm. I was managing traffic on the road coming from T-1, when a vehicle… was coming from the wrong side at high speed, carelessly and negligently, due to which people had a lot of trouble in driving there… I informed about this on 112 (helpline) , after which the police came to the spot,” the traffic policeman posted in Delhi Cantonment was quoted as saying in the FIR.
According to the FIR, the driver could not produce a driving licence and insurance papers.
The FIR in Kapashera was registered after a car was caught plying on the wrong side near Kapashera Chowk. The driver, the FIR stated, allegedly told the traffic policeman that he was in a hurry and wanted to avoid the jam. According to the police, the man was also driving recklessly and at a high speed.
