Clocking 14.43 in the 110 m 0 hurdles,P Kesavaramani of Tamil Nadu established a new meet mark here on the second day of the 9th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships.
He broke the record set up by Naunidh Singh (14.72) of Punjab in 2002. DD Mahanta of Orissa (14.45) and Siddhanth Thingalaya of Maharashtra (14.69) bagged a silver and a bronze,respectively in the same event. They too bettered the existing meet record.
The other hurdles in the junior womens section too went to a Tamil Nadu athlete G Gayathry who emerged on top with a timing of 14.23.
For the home team,Manjesh Kumar Yadav brought cheers with a leap of 7.32m in the long jump pit. He tied with Rabi Das of Orissa,who too scored a leap of 7.32m but the former pipped him on the count back as he did it in his third jump while the latter could achieve his feat in his sixth jump.
On the penultimate day of the championship,Haryana was leading the medal tally with 6 golds,9 silvers and 4 bronze. Tamil Nadu was at the second spot with 5 golds,2 silvers and 3 bronze,Kerala was at the third place with 4 golds,4 silvers and 7 bronze. Jharkhand was at the fifth position with 4 golds and 1 silver while hosts UP are at the fifth spot with 2 golds,6 silvers and 4 bronze medals.
