Uttar Pradesh opener Digvijay Singh Rawat scored a century as the CK Nayudu under-22 trophy match between hosts UP and Mumbai ended in a draw in Lucknow on Tuesday. Mumbai,however,got three points by virtue of a first innings lead while UP had to rest content with just one point. Resuming at an overnight score of 417 for nine,Mumbai lost their last wicket in the form of Nadeem Mehdi (26). Nadeems wicket was taken by right-arm off-spinner Sunil Tripathi as the latters sixth victim. Sunil completed his first innings spell with figures of 39.3-5-117-6. Mumbai team posted a first innings total of 427 runs in reply UPs first innings total of 404 runs. In their second innings,UP were at 214 for 2 in 71 overs when stumps were drawn on the final day. Before the mandatory overs both the captains agreed for a draw. UP batsmen Digvijay Singh Rawat (104),Umang Sharma (57 not out) and M Zahid (25 not out) batted responsibly for the team. Digvijays 104 came off 186 balls which included ten boundaries and two lofty sixes.
Indrajeet excels
Inderjeet Patel of UP timed 30:03.17 to establish a new meet record in the 10,000m run event of the boys under-20 section in the 27th National Junior Athletics Championships being held at Ranchi. He erased the existing meet record of 30:23.70 made by Bala Sahib Nikam of Maharashtra in 1996. Secretary UP Athletic Association PK Srivastava informed that with his impressive performances,Inderjeet qualified for Asian junior athletics championships,World junior championships and South Asian Games. Two more UP athletes bagged golds today. Shiva Shakya won a gold in the 3000m run event in the girls under-16 section with 10:20.80 while Vivek Verma claimed a gold in boys under-14 shot put event with an effort of 14.58 m.
