Mahendra Karma’s ashes to be immersed in Sangam today

Allahabad: The ashes of Congress leader Mahendra Karma,who was brutally killed in the naxal attack on Congress leaders’ convoy in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on May 25,were on Friday brought here by his son and other family members. The ashes would be immersed in Sangam on Saturday morning. Karma’s sons Deepak and Chhavindra,along with other family members,arrived with the urn containing the ashes in Allahabad around 2 pm. Security personnel also accompanied them. State Congress president Nirmal Khatri,former State Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi,MLA Anugraha Narayan Singh,city Congress chief Shyam Krishna Pandey,party spokesperson Kishore Varshneya and other Congress leaders received the ashes at the new Naini Bridge toll plaza.

Lucknow: Rashtriya Lok Dal national president Ajit Singh has nominated senior party leader Anil Dubey as the party’s national secretary. Dubey was earlier general secretary of the party’s UP unit.

Light showers in UP bring respite

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh got some respite from the heat wave with parts of the state receiving light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers in the last 24 hours. MeT office sources here said that the highest rainfall was measured in Bareilly at 3 cm. Day temperatures fell appreciably in Meerut,Gorakhpur,Varanasi and Bareilly.
