BDC candidate arrested for assembling firearms

The Meerut unit of the Uttar Pradesh STF,on Friday,arrested two persons including one Block Development Committee (BDC) candidate for operating a manufacturing unit of countrymade firearms in Meerut districts Hastinapur area. The STF Deputy SP,Anil Kumar Jha,who led the operation,said Raees Qureshi and Intezar Ali of Kithaur area in Meerut were arrested while they were assembling .315 bore countrymade pistols. The police also seized 10 pistols ready to be sold and the equipment used to assemble them.

Qureshi contested for the BDC post from Radhna Inayatpur block in the first phase of the panchayat polls on October 11,said Jha. Qureshi has revealed that he had orders to supply of firearms to Meerut,Baghpat,Bulandshahr and Amroha districts. The firearms were being used to settle election rivalry,he alleged.
