Two persons were arrested from the city following a failed kidnapping bid on Monday. The duo has been identified as Bunti Singh Rathore,a car driver,and Kartik Pal,a rickshaw puller.

Swastiki Chakraborty (6),a resident of AJ Block in Salt Lake,was allegedly kidnapped by Rathore while she was on her way home from school. Rathore was the driver of the car that Swastiki had pooled in for being dropped home.

A student of Loreto House,Swastiki was picked up by Rathore,who after dropping her other car mates allegedly faked that the car had broken down and made her sit in a rickshaw. Rickshawpuller Pal then reportedly took Swastiki to a store room in Falguni market area where she was gagged and left alone.

The girl freed herself and raised an alarm following which locals rescued her, said a police officer.

Swastikis mother Mithu Chakraborty said: When she did not reach home at the usual time,we approached the police.

Hinting at the involvement of other persons,Bidhanagar ASP Debobrata Das said: The rickshaw puller and the car driver have been arrested. Investigations are on to see if more people are involved.
