Katwa rape staged: Didi

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again seems to have jumped the gun and spoken out of turn on Tuesday when she said the incident of a woman passenger being raped in a moving train in Katwa was staged and done to malign the image of her government.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again seems to have jumped the gun and spoken out of turn on Tuesday when she said the incident of a woman passenger being raped in a moving train in Katwa was staged and done to malign the image of her government.

“Medical report does not confirm rape. The lady has conceded that her husband is a CPM supporter. The entire thing is staged,” she said at a press conference at Writers’ Buildings.

Experts at Katwa Hospital, however, said the rape could not be conclusively written off so easily. “The forensic report of the swab test is yet to arrive and at present it is not possible to confirm whether she was raped or not since the victim is a married woman, said a senior official of Katwa Hospital.

Reacting to the CM’s comments,Leader of Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra said she was repeating the same mistake which she had done during the Park Street rape incident. “She has this habit of saying such things without checking facts. The victim’s husband, who she claims to be a CPM supporter, has passed away long time back,” he said.

Police,on the other hand,is too skeptical and even top brass officials declined to comment on the issue following what happened to senior police officer Damyanti Sen,after she cracked the Park Street case. While Dilip Mitra,DG (Rail),said he would not comment because he had officially handed over the case to the state police,Surajit Kar Purkaystha,ADG,(law and order) said,“I don’t want to comment on it because this case is being now dealt with at a different level.”
