Bright future awaits Bengal: Powell

US ambassador Nancy Powell on Monday met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,who shared her “vision for revitalising West Bengal”.

In a press release,Powell said she was “amazed by all the transformation that has taken place” and a “bright future lies ahead” for the state. “It is exciting to sense the new energy in the state and I’m amazed by all the transformation that has taken place.” Powell said she had an “excellent discussion with the chief minister” and a “productive exchange with the Governor” earlier in the morning. “This is a fascinating state in a fascinating region. Eastern and Northeast India clearly have an exciting future and great importance to India’s regional presence,” Powell observed.

Powell’s visit to Kolkata came a week ahead of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s arrival. “I think this visit will be an opportunity for her to see firsthand how much this city and eastern India have transformed,” the press release said.
