A man was arrested after he allegedly killed his live-in partner in Delhi’s Chawla, put the body on the rear seat of a car to dispose it of, but instead went to bed as he was too drunk to stay awake, police said on Thursday.

Police identified the woman as Radha (44) and the accused as Virender Singh (35).

On Tuesday night, police said, Virender and Radha were drinking alcohol together. An argument allegedly broke out when Radha told Virender not to drink anymore. “They had a fight… There were some marks and abrasions on the face of the deceased. When asked, the accused said he killed the woman by strangulating her,” DCP (Dwaraka) Ankit Singh said.

Virender then allegedly called his friends to help him carry the body to his car. Two of his friends arrived, helped him put the body in the car and left.

“Virender wanted to dispose of the body, but was so drunk that he chose to leave the body in the car and returned to his room to sleep,” said an officer. On Wednesday, a neighbour spotted the body in the car and alerted the Chhawla police station around 9.15 am. “A Maruti Swift car was found parked at the site, with a body lying on the rear seat,” said the DCP.

An officer said Virender, who is already married and has kids, was in a live-in relationship with the victim for the past two years.

The officer added that the woman had lost her husband to cancer, and her father — who had moved to the US — had also passed away.
