Mohol promises action against IndiGo for flight disruptions

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Sunday promised to take action against Indigo for the flight disruptions that has caused mental distress to scores of passengers across the country, once the four-member committee set up by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) submits its report.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Mohol said, “Passengers across the country have suffered mental distress and faced many difficulties. They had to endure mental harassment because of IndiGo.”
IndiGo has cancelled more than 2,000 flights and delayed several others. Thousands of passengers are stranded at several airports around the country since Tuesday and are struggling with either lost baggage or refund issues.
The DGCA has set up a four-member inquiry panel to determine reasons for the current situation and recommend mitigation measures, and has issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers.
Mohol said action will be taken after the four-member committee submits its report, adding that accountability will be fixed, and nobody will be spared.
Blaming the airline for not living up to its responsibilities, the Minister said, “The present crisis has unfolded as certain responsibilities that IndiGo was expected to carry out were not fulfilled. The DGCA has formed an inquiry committee and set up a control room. It has also issued a notice to IndiGo. Limits on ticket sales have been imposed on all airline companies,” he said. The Minister said that instructions have been given to ensure all passengers whose flights were cancelled are refunded.
