Sub-inspector held for cheating in UPSC exams

According to officials, the bluetooth devices were allegedly used for providing candidates with answers during the examination.

A former Delhi police sub-inspector was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly using unfair means during the Civil Services Examination held by Union Public Service Commission.

Based on the information, CBI on Thursday carried out searches at various locations in the capital and seized laptops, customised clandestine equipment with bluetooth technology, a customised vest to conceal wires, the seal of a gazetted officer and a Delhi Police identity card.

According to officials, the bluetooth devices were allegedly used for providing candidates with answers during the examination.

A CBI spokesperson said a man identified as Deepak Mann has been arrested, while his other accomplices are being questioned. The agency suspect that Mann and his accomplices may be involved in running a cheating racket and may have helped other aspirants to clear the exams.

The case was taken up by the CBI on the reference of the UPSC. The accused have been charged under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The agency said it has launched a probe to ascertain whether Mann, along with his accomplices, ran a racket outside Delhi and charged money to facilitate his services.
