With Congress president Sonia Gandhi watching,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday pitched for a single command system in the national capital if the Central government could not grant full statehood. Dikshit asserted that the multiplicity of authorities in the city had hampered growth and development and had remarked the same at a rally with AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi last week.
It is a request that whether we get full statehood or not,we want a single command system in Delhi so that we dont have to run from pillar to post to get things done. This hampers the development and growth of the city, Dikshit said, while addressing a rally in Shastri Park in East Delhi where Sonia Gandhi was the main speaker.
Incidentally, statehood for Delhi and a common economic taxation zone for the national capital region (NCR) Gurgaon and Noida form the core of the partys manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections on December 4.
The three-time CM also requested Sonia Gandhis assistance in developing the common economic zone.
Every year five lakh people come to the national capital in search of jobs. We have limited land. There is need to develop NCR,especially Noida and Gurgaon, and form a common economic and development zone for overall development. If this happens,we will become the most progressive and the most prosperous state of North India, Dikshit said.
Dikshit also warned the crowd at Shastri Park not to fall into the trap set by opposition parties AAP and BJP. It is not an ordinary city, but the capital of India. If we take the wrong decision by removing the Congress government (in Delhi) then the problem will not only be borne by you,but the entire country. So beware and do not fall in the trap. They (opposition parties) have not spoken a single sentence regarding how they will work for the development of the capital, Dikshit said.
She also went on to list her three-time governments achievements in the last 15 years, focussing on the Metro, flyovers and social sector schemes. There are four crore mobile phones in Delhi for a population of 1.7 crore. All these reflect the path of development and progress we are following, Dikshit said.
