Deccan Charger

It is in couture that a designer plays out her fantasies, and explores her creativity to the fullest.

It is in couture that a designer plays out her fantasies, and explores her creativity to the fullest. Veteran designer Ritu Kumar’s show at the Taj Palace Hotel on Sardar Patel Marg, was a medley of both the familiar and the exciting. Gathered in the opulent lounge, under dim-lit chandeliers,Versace-clad women fought for the front row, while FDCI President Sunil Sethi seemed to be in the thick of things, taking care of seating woes. Held on the occasion of the launch of the Taj Falaknuma property in Hyderabad, the show was a typically Kumar affair, with lehengas dominating the ramp and beautiful embroidery being showcased to the fullest. Vibrant colours, lavish prints and textures morphed the collection into a bohemian fantasy, inspired by the rich nomadic traditions of the Deccan. In keeping with the royal theme, walking the ramp for Kumar was Sharmila Tagore with daughter Soha Ali Khan. The show will be taken to Mumbai later this month.
